I admittedly am a Suns fan and cannot avoid bias. However, having watched the entirety of Book's career I can recall one, MAYBE two times Book has been the initial instigator of a physical back-and-forth. He just talks (a lot), all the time (no matter the score), and that can get under other players' skin.
I can see why it's annoying, but I think the majority of people on the altercation list with him have their own histories. So to answer your question, people like to try him.
