Is there any doubt that the most apt analog to Michael Jordan on & off the court is Pete Rose? I'm not even talking about the similarity of likely gambling addiction, but the fact that both were all-time greats when between the lines, but arguably almost worthless and malignant outside of them.

We always want our sports heroes to be great people, when more often than not, they're simply great athletes.

Excellent piece. Jordan had the finger injury before the '99 season that would have caused him to miss time, but all of these decisions were made before that happened. Just a complete organizational failure from the top down. I don't think either Reinsdorf or Krause should be in the Hall of Fame - Krause has a better case, but the "rebuild" was an unmitigated disaster.
