With his millions, experience, & glittering accomplishments, & his role as the new de-facto team leader, couldn’t McCollum simply have picked up his phone & called Williamson? How hard is that? And by the same token, since Williamson has essentially nothing to do all day, couldn’t he have done the same to welcome McCollum? Common guys, all basketball fans look up to you!!
This is a bit harsh on the current team. Don’t think Willie, CJ, BI, or anyone on the current roster is to blame here. They’re trying to make a playoff run with their currently constructed roster. The energy around the team of late has been entirely positive other than Zion’s harrowing silence.
Some team will offer ZW a max contract this summer, and I don't think it should be the Pelicans. They should be talking to teams who might make an offer about a sign & trade, assuming that's something that can be done. The CBA is not my strong suit.
I'm not convinced that Zion is ever going to be able to keep himself on the court, other than for fairly short stretches of games. New Orleans, as with other smaller-market teams, has problems attracting and keeping star players. There will be decent offers out there, but teams know that the Pels are up against it, and have to fish or cut bait. If no offers in the neighborhood of fair are in the offing, they'll probably have to match any offer that he accepts.
And take out a giant insurance policy to cover his contract if he never again plays significant minutes.
