Atlanta Hawks, meet my friend Comeuppance
Trae Young and Dejounte Murray start dancing on the grave of the 15th place Rockets only for the 15th place Rockets to drag them down to hell.
Good morning. Per usual, the Monday email is too long for most email clients, so you’ll want to click on the headline to open the issue in a browser if you’re reading this in Gmail, or Hotmail, or AOL. Let’s basketball.
Scores
FRIDAY
Blazers 132, Knicks 129 (OT) — Jalen Brunson had a night (he’s been having a lot of nights), but Jerami Grant with 44 and Anfernee Simons with 38? Sheesh.
Kings 104, Celtics 122 — Let the record show that the Kings led this late in the third quarter before Jayson Tatum and crew led a vicious and unnecessary takeover.
Nets 117, Pacers 128 — 20-6-3 for Ben Simmons but uh 21-6-15 for Tyrese Haliburton. Indiana had four players hit 20 points, including rookie Bennedict Mathurin. He has nine 20-point games already!
Wizards 107, Heat 110 — Yes, it does feel like these teams have played 17 times in the past two weeks. Bam Adebayo with a great performance, and Caleb Martin with the clamps on Bradley Beal at the end.
Hawks 122, Rockets 128 — This is hilarious. Dejounte Murray got his Seattle Pro-Am attitude on … while his team lost to one of the worst teams in the NBA! That’s a head tap on a defender, followed by some very center stage celebration of a Trae Young three, with Young preening in response. This should be ultra embarrassing.
There was a little annoying altercation after the possession following that three, and Murray and Trae played up to the boos from the crowd.
And then Houston won the fourth quarter 34-18 to win the game. Yikes! This is worth two Ls, to be honest. Adam Silver should issues fines and maybe suspensions to the Hawks for embarrassing themselves, the state of Georgia and the sport.
Two more epilogues to this story. First, on Jalen Green’s IG story:
Then Kevin Porter Jr. calls particular attention to a slice of it:
Lil Fella! Sheesh. And then Trae, who loves trolling opposing crowds and whatnot, decides to get stoic in response.
All we’re missing is a Dejounte tweet with Every Word Capitalized Talking About Jalen Green Knowing What He Did or something. Anyway, the Hawks’ star duo have good vibes with each other and terrible vibes with the rest of the world. This particular game could be the opening scene of a horror documentary about how the Hawks ended up with the longest playoff drought in American pro sports history 30 years from now.
