There's no right answer on the balance of pandemic vs. basketball content. You've hit a good balance for me so far and honestly just feel free to talk about it if its on your mind but don't stress about pushing it to the side as much as you need, since we all can use that break away to balance our own mental health.
I just wanna say you're incredible. Not just for the hard work you put in to give us incredible NBA recaps and analysis (which honestly is a life-saver because I love the NBA so much but don't have time to stay up to date without this newsletter), but also for your voice. Your voice on all of these topics that aren't basketball and are very very impactful events in our world. Please continue to keep up the incredible work, and never hesitate to address the issues that really matter with your level of care and thoughtfulness.
I really appreciate you addressing the league's lessening of protections RE: the pandemic. I think you're right, that a lot of us read newsletters like this as a bit of a reprieve from the ongoing tragedy that's been unfolding this year. However, I would definitely encourage you to not shy away from the impulse to critique any absurdity/hypocrisy/cynicism in the league's pandemic efforts this season... it's important to have strong voices calling it out when they see it (I think the website Defector has done a good job covering the NFL on this, for example).
Anyways, appreciate your work. Thank you for being a thoughtful NBA voice in the world.
Just here to say your newsletter is the shit and I love being able to check out and only think about basketball. But i'm not opposed to critiques as long as they fit in the greater basketball lens in some way.
Thank you for this, Tom. Your willingness to engage social and moral issues, and the way you write about players compassionately as the human beings they are, are major reasons I've been drawn to your newsletter over other NBA writers. Plus your goofy humor. Thanks and keep it up!
This is so well said what you dropped in the last 3 paragraphs! No one knows but basketball is what it is at this time a distraction a disservice a service a release and a reaction to what’s transpiring country and worldwide!
GMIB is required reading. Thank you for addressing the deadly elephant in the room and for continuing to offer a distraction from it. May the season be less tragic than we all fear, the vaccine be distributed faster than we all hope, and may 2021 turn out better than we currently imagine it could be.
Also, for performance reasons only, Harry Giles will be starting at Center for Portland by the end of the year, and will win most improved player. Called it here first! 🙂
I agree with the others -- you always discuss social issues in a thoughtful, balanced way and you never push it too far. Trust your instincts on when and how long to write, as you've done a terrific job in this terrible, bizarre years. Thanks for your great work!
appreciate you 😘

Thanks for a great year of newsletters!
